Cthulhu in Spore

by Brand on Jun.26, 2008, under General

With the release of the Spore Creature Builder, a lot of people have been trying to create creatures that look like things they already love. So, I guess it’s only natural that someone created replicas of the Arkham Horrors in Spore.

Can Terzioğlu sends us a pic of R’lyeh, which is lovely, although I don’t know how non-euclidean it is. . .

365 Days of Blasphemous Horror

by Brand on Jun.06, 2008, under General

Steven Archer sent us a link to WeirdTales.net which is running a visual-art project where they post a year-long, daily online series of all-new, Lovecraft-inspired artwork. The artwork is created by the Baltimore-based mixed-media artist Steven Archer (who is half of the musical duo Ego Likeness).

Weird Tales is, of course, the magazine that first introduced the world to H.P. Lovecraft, and it’s therefore only fitting that they would host this display. The artwork also appears to be available for sale, so you may want to check it out sooner rather than later.

Gods Playing Poker

by Brand on Jun.04, 2008, under General

I should have posted this a long time ago, but I am galactically slow at updating. There’s a weekly webcomic called “Gods Playing Poker” based on the idea that several different religions are represented in a card game. Of course, it wouldn’t be complete without our own patron soul-eater. He doesn’t actually speak a language, but often speaks in other tongues (I’ve spotted Jabba-speak in the latest one at least).

While I generally want to avoid religious discussions, this one holds no punches. In a recent comic, Cthulhu is shown wearing the pope’s hat, with Jesus saying “I don’t care. You swallowed him, you can darn well un-swallow him!”

Wow.

It’s worth noting that, right after posting this, “Gods Playing Poker” started a plotline where Cthulhu was revealed as “fiction”. I’m sure they will rectify this misunderstanding presently.
