Episode 8 is Live

I appreciate how patient everyone has been. I keep saying that I’m not going to do any special effects, because they slow me down. Then I get a crazy idea that’s too good to let go, and I lose weeks on the new special effects.

Either way, it’s here now, and I hope you enjoy it.

Great! Good move putting the teaser on YouTube.

As for effects, I come for the dialog. Effects are fine if they add something, but there’ll be no wailing or gnashing of teeth if all I see is the Great One.

    Now, to watch.

  2. Brand says:

You say that now, but I think you’ll agree that the effects really made the teaser work in this episode. πŸ™‚

Still, with that said, I’m going to try to stick to the dialog-heavy, effects-lite version in the future.

  3. fred says:

Excellent show. Yeah, the teaser was quite cool. Though the scary bit was the file name final. I was hoping it was the last of the year and not just the last one. Glad to see from your comment that you do intend to make more episodes.

  4. Do I really look that pale on camera? I’m going to have fire my makeup artist. Great show as usual, Big C.

  5. Mespheber says:

Image seems of better quality than on Youtube, but I can’t watch it straight from website: it looks like snapshots with cut voices… I’ll try to download it later. Fuck comps. πŸ™

  6. Rojek says:

I’m disappointed- there was no “Rapid Fire Round” πŸ™ Maybe you had too few questions submitted, but, honestly, I don’t think so πŸ™‚

Nevertheless- Shub Niggurath referred to as a town bicycle πŸ˜€ That left me laughing for 5 minutes. Great job!

    Greetings from Polish fans πŸ™‚

PS. Sorry if there were some language mistakes πŸ˜›

  7. rob says:

Nice to see there’s finally another of the Great Old Ones on board (unless you count Cthulhu’s parents). I liked the trailer, but… I’m assuming the Rapid Fire Round is gone. Oh well. Good show, anyways.

  8. Stelacero says:

Great show, man. I really liked it.

Although I admit I missed “Rapid Fire Round”, I loved it.

I canΒ΄t wait to watch the new one.

Keep up the good work and greetings from Spain.

  9. Byron says:

Really funny! I really admire you for what you’ve done so far. I just recently got into Cthulhu mythos myself (from Christmas onward) and this has really given me a lot of laughs and has lighted up my usually drab life. Since I’m kinda new to the whole mythos-thing and only know about Yog-Sothoth and Cthulhu, could you possibly reference me to where I can find out more on the other Old Ones, like Azathot (sp?) and Hastor and Shub-Niggurath? Also, I got a question for Cthulhu: is it true that R’yleh rises from the sea from the periods of March 22 to April 7th, and if so, what do you usually do during that time? Many thanks, and Fhtagn

  10. Hastur says:

Great work. Kinda missed the Rapid Fire Round though.

  11. Brand says:

Thanks guys. Sorry about the Rapid Fire Round being missing. For me, that was always just a funny side-thing, I had no idea everybody liked it that much. On this episode, and the show development was taking WAY too long, so I just didn’t do one.

Okay, I’ll remember next time and while I can’t promise that there will be an RFR in all of them, I’ll keep in mind that it’s an important part of the show.

  12. Brand says:

    @Byron

Thanks! Regarding source material, I have to admit, I’m not a Cthulhu scholar. I’ve read most of the books, but I try to stick with the Lovecraftian stuff when I can. For basic “factual” data, you can’t beat Wikipedia.

For texts about them, the best collection I can find is “Tales of the Cthulhu Mythos” which you can check out at Amazon.com. Not all of it is written by Lovecraft, but it all deals with the Mythos creatures.

    Hope that helps.

  13. Charleene says:

Great episode! I can watch it many times and with every time I discover something new (because English is not my original language and every time I understand more πŸ˜› ).
I was suprised that there was no Rapid Fire Round, but not disappointed – this episode was great anyway ;]
    Regards from Poland =)

  14. Joe the Schmoe says:

    Effects wise: best episode ever.
Episode wise: personally my favorite episode’s number 6 (Lord Xenu is given the recognition he deserves), but this wasn’t bad either. Seemed to go by too quickly, but maybe it was just my anticipation. And I missed the Rapid Fire Round, but it’s already been adressed and I don’t want to sound like a nagging douche (the worst kind, you know).

btw… you seem computer savy (or savvy… whatever), so I have two questions (you don’t have to answer).

    What are your favorite websites?

What web browser do you use (Debian’s Iceweasel, Mozilla’s Firefox, something more common etc.)?

  15. Brand says:

    >> Seemed to go by too quickly, but maybe it was just my anticipation.
I felt the same way, but at more than ten minutes, I just can’t figure out why.

Favorite Websites? Well, I read a lot of RSS feeds, (Boing Boing, Fark, Digg) and that gives me most of my news.

    http://www.fark.com

I’m a game programmer by trade, so I also check out Gamasutra, Blues News, and Code Project pretty frequently.

For webcomics, I like XKCD, WonderMark, Penny Arcade, and PvP.

There are others, but these are the most common.

Oh, and I only use FireFox. I’m not elitist about it or anything, it’s just the best I’ve seen. Opera’s the only other one that’s come close, but I missed my plug-ins.

  16. Joe the Schmoe says:

In responce to Byron’s question, I’ll note some easy ways to get into Lovecraft. While it’s true that you’re probably better off with wikipedia (may it never fail), I don’t have anything better to do.
The Call of Cthulhu and The Shadow Over Innsmouth are two of the easiest to understand and are very rewarding in the end. Hastur was not from Lovecraft, he was made by his friend August Derleth. The representation of Cthulhu in the show (visually) is pretty faithful to Lovecraft. He never gave out an extremely detailed description, instead he compared him to some freaky looking “octopoid dragon man”. Lovecraft can be hard to read at times, but he who knows patience knows peace.

  17. Joe the Schmoe says:

Crap. Wikipedia has corrected me as I was fact checking what I said. Hastur was created by Ambrose Bierce.

  18. Jason F. says:

I am in shock that my question was actually included in an episode! I almost feel famous!

  19. Ghoulie says:

When will chapter 8 be put up on YouTube? For some reason I can’t view it through Quicktime.

  20. ad says:

    I love that show! πŸ™‚
The special effects was cool idea. I also missed the “Rapid fire round”.
    Can`t wait for another episode.

  21. Basking Wallaby says:

My family and friends love the show! We go mad when a new one isn’t released!

But the hard work we see in the finished product is more than rewarding! Nananana!

  22. steve buochard says:

I would just like to point that the Grim Reaper’s real name is Azreil, the angel of death( and one of the seraphim), and that he holds the power of life and death over ALL, even all the angels in heaven( that includes Satan and his followers). His name translates from Hebrew, means “God’s Command”. And their is a whole story to that but it would take to long.
Just thought I should point that out.
Love the Show by the way!

  23. Dexter Ward says:

    Great show, as always!
Is there any chance that there will come another one in the future?

  24. Brand says:

Yeah, I’m really sorry about how long this is taking. I could tell you sob stories about losing my job, about a difficult divorce, even about my dog dying, but the short version is that I’ve just had too much on my plate recently.

However, I have recorded the audio, and I just finished the video yesterday, so I should be in post very soon. If it weren’t for the fact that I’m throwing a huge party for a bunch of podcasters, I would be working on it right now.

Thanks for watching, and I hope to have something else for you soon.
