Episode 8 is Live

Posted December 27th, 2007 at 6:38 pm in Shows by Brand

I appreciate how patient everyone has been. I keep saying that I’m not going to do any special effects, because they slow me down. Then I get a crazy idea that’s too good to let go, and I lose weeks on the new special effects.

Either way, it’s here now, and I hope you enjoy it.

Baby’s First Mythos

Posted December 20th, 2007 at 8:02 am in General by Brand

This is a great idea. From the horror writer C. J. Henderson, this book teaches your child their ABC’s by way of the Cthulhu Mythos. I haven’t read it yet (my order’s shipping now), but the comments on the book suggest that it’s not just funny, it also informs you about the Mythos. Apparently, they have little poems for each letter. I can’t wait to see how they rhymed “Nyarlthotep”.

Cthulhu Chanting

Posted December 12th, 2007 at 8:39 pm in General, News by Brand

In episode 8, I had a need for a rising tension music, so I turned to our good friends the Brothers Burn. They provided me with several good candidates, and I picked the best one for the episode. However, one of the others was so good I thought it would be a waste for no one to hear it. So I got their permission to release the Cthulhu Chant here.

Here is the Link.

In addition to having a great rising tension music, he has a chorus saying “Cthulh Fhtagn”. Might make a nice ringtone . . .

Submit your Younglings!!

Posted December 5th, 2007 at 4:10 pm in General by Brand

A fan wrote in recently saying that he witnessed, “a seven year old go into uncontrollable giggles watching <the show> and go around saying ‘I will swallow your soul.’ afterwards.” I asked if he had video of that, because I’d love to put it in the show. Sadly, he hadn’t.

But that  got me thinking. If you (or someone you know) has a young child who would get a kick out of the show, do us a favor and record their reaction at watching. If I can get enough good videos, I’ll put them together in a new segment on the show.

Now, no twisting their arms, trying to get them to laugh. That’s cheating, and I can tell (ominous glare).

In other news, yes I am still working on Episode 8, and yes, I am hoping to be done in the next week or so. I’m just swamped at work.

More Web Cthulhu sightings

Clearing out my cache of Cthulhu Web links (from “My Confined Space”):

A Cthulhu Christmas Tree Ornament

You’ve probably see this before, but here’s a nice hi-res Cthulhu for President poster.

Beautiful Demon head rendering (they say it’s from Hellgate: London, but it’s definitely Cthulhu-esque).

Interview on Slice of Sci-Fi

Posted November 19th, 2007 at 6:11 am in General by Brand

This past week, I was given the opportunity to be interviewed on the “Slice of Sci-Fi” Podcast. They’re a great group to talk with, and we had a chance to discuss lots of cool stuff about the show.

So, if you want to hear what Brand sounds like when he’s not doing his Cthulhu impression, tune in to the “Slice of Sci-Fi” podcast.

A Study in Emerald

Posted November 12th, 2007 at 10:10 pm in General by Brand

As you have probably guessed, I’m a reader. I read a lot. In addition to the daily Internet news, I’m currently reading “From the Earth To the Moon” by Jules Verne (great steampunk engineering), “A Tale of Two Cities” by Charles Dickens (powerful and poingiant), “Pride and Prejudice” by Jane Austen (pedantic and annoying), and “Gateway” by Fredrick Pohl (great old modern sci-fi). However, I put all of that aside when someone pointed out the short story “A Study in Emerald” by Neil Gaiman (thanks Summer!)

If you’re a fan of Gaiman’s writing (Neverwhere, Sandman, etc.) then you’re probably already interested in looking for this story. Gaiman is one of the best fantasy writers alive, and a personal favorite of mine. He’s also quite a fan of H.P. Lovecraft, which is what brings me to this post today.

<Spoiler Alert. Story elements are discussed here>

Imagine an alternate past, where the Great Old Ones have risen, taken dominance over mankind, and ruled them as benevolent dictators. Imagine further that Sherlock Holmes was called up to consult on the murder of a consort to the “Queen”. Further, imagine that it was all flawlessly rendered by a man who seemed to be channelling Conan Doyle directly. That is what the “Study in Emerald” is about.

<End Spoiler Alert />

“A Study in Emerald” won the 2004 Hugo Award for Best Short Story, and the 2005 Locus Award for Best Novelette.

The best part is, you can download it free as either a PDF file or as an Audiobook read by the author.

Enjoy.

P.S. If you’re hungry for more, why not check out his short story “I Cthulhu”

Well, I’m still new to this webpage, so forgive me if I don’t post the video properly. However, the new Halloween episode is available.

(the right file should be in the RSS feed now)

Thanks to Summer for fixing my technical stupidity.
